This hat makes an adorable newborn photo prop for a newborn baby girl or boy. I made mine for my new baby girl, but if you used blue instead of pink, it would be awesome for a baby boy too.

Materials needed:
• U.S. I/9- 5.5 MM crochet hook
• Worsted weight yarn- used here:
-Color A: Vanna's Choice in Pink
-Color B: Vanna's Choice in White
• Orange felt, thread, & needle
• Buttons, thread, & needle for eyes
• Tapestry needle for sewing in the ends
Abbreviations:
• MR= magic ring
• MR= magic ring
• ch= chain
• sc= single crochet
• sc= single crochet
• dc= double crochet
• sc2tog= single crochet 2 together= insert your hook into the first stitch, yarn over and draw up a loop, insert your hook into the next stitch, yarn over and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on the hook
• sl st= slip stitch
Finished size:
• Newborn- to fit 12-13" head circumference ( You can go up to a J hook if you want the hat to be slightly bigger.)
Hat
1: With Color A, MR, ch 2 (does not count), 10 dc in ring. Join with sl st in the top of the first dc, not the ch 2. (10)
2: Ch 2, 2dc in each stitch around. Join with sl st in the top of the first dc, not the ch 2. (20)
3: Ch 2, (2dc in the first stitch, dc in next), repeat around. Join with sl st in the top of the first dc, not the ch 2. (30)
4: Ch 2, dc in each stitch around. Join with sl st in the top of the first dc, not the ch 2. (30)
5: Join Color B, Ch 2, dc in each stitch around. Join with sl st in the top of the first dc, not the ch 2. (30)
6: Ch 2, dc in each stitch around. Join with sl st in the top of the first dc, not the ch 2. (30)
7-9: Repeat 6
Do not finish off, continue on to ear flap instructions
Ear Flaps & Ties
1: Ch 1, sc in the same stitch and in the next 7
2: Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, 3sc, sc2tog
3: Ch 1, turn, 5sc
4: Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, 1sc, sc2tog
5: Ch 1, turn, 3sc
6: Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, 1sc
7: Ch 1, turn, sc2tog
8: Ch 1, sl st evenly down the side of the ear flap, when you reach the last row of the hat, sl st in the next 8 stitches, sc in the next 8 stitches and then begin next ear flap
9: Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, 3sc, sc2tog
3: Ch 1, turn, 5sc
4: Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, 1sc, sc2tog
5: Ch 1, turn, 3sc
6: Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, 1sc
7: Ch 1, turn, sc2tog
8: Ch 1, loosely sl st evenly down the side of the ear flap, when you reach the last row of the hat, loosely sl st in the next 9 stitches, loosely sl st evenly up the side of the 1st ear flap, loosely sl st into the top stitch of the ear flap, ch 23, work in the back ridge, 23sc back up the tie, sl st down the flap and across the back of the hat, loosely sl st evenly up the ear flap, loosely sl st into the top stitch of the ear flap, ch 23, work in the back ridge, 23sc back up the tie, cut yarn and join with invisible join. Weave in all ends.

4: Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, 1sc, sc2tog

Weave in all ends.
Carrot Nose
Cut a carrot shape out of orange felt. Sew it onto the hat with orange thread.
Button Eyes:
Sew on button eyes of your choice.
